A Carter High School graduate who is one of the greatest Texas Tech University football players of all time will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year.
Michael Crabtree, who also played 11 seasons in the NFL, became the sixth member of of the Texas Tech Ring of Honor last year, and he is depicted in a mural at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.
The 34-year-old, who retired after the 2019 season, played wide receiver. He was a two-time All American, and he set many records for Tech’s Red Raiders, including all-time receiving yards and touchdown catches. He also broke eight NCAA records in his two-year college playing career.
The College Football Hall of Fame and Irving-based National Football Foundation choose members on athletic accomplishments as well as good citizenship: “He must have proven himself worthy as a citizen, carrying the ideals of football forward into his relations with his community.”
Crabtree does that with is Crab 5 Foundation, which “encourages and promotes personal and professional development through cultural activities.”
