The free public charter school opened its fist campus in 1999 and now has seven locations, in Fort Worth, Mesquite and Oak Cliff, including its 10th Street campus, which is adjacent to Tyler Street academy.

“With an expansion, renovation and addition of state-of-the-art facilities, we look forward to our staff and students thriving in the upgraded space designed to meet their academic and social needs, and provide space for outstanding after school programming as well,” Trinity Basin superintendent Randy Shaffer stated in a media release.

Once it is renovated and expanded, sometime in the 2023-24 school year, the campus will be able to serve 900 students, including all of the students from the current 10th Street campus.

Tyler Street Christian Academy closed last year after 49 years in business.

Trinity Basin Prep currently has about 4,200 students across all of its campuses. The district offers these statistics:

90% of students come from economically disadvantaged families

57% are English language learners

80% are classified by the Texas Education Agency as “at-risk”

The school partners with nonprofits “to enhance student learning by providing services, which include free after-school programming, music education and athletic opportunities.”
