Dallas ISD District 7 Monthly Updates

  • Dallas ISD shifts to ‘Masks Recommended’: This school year, Dallas ISD has held firm with its mask mandate during the time that we were seeing higher transmission numbers around the county. Based on the data at the current time, the fact that the county risk level has moved down to orange, and the availability of vaccines for most students and teachers, Dallas ISD has moved to a state of ‘Masks Recommended’ for all students and staff. Dallas ISD will continue to monitor the conditions and adjust course as needed.
  • Two Dallas ISD Schools earn Blue Ribbon award nominations: The School for the Talented and Gifted and the School of Science and Engineering — both at Townview Magnet Center – were nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Award. The National Blue Ribbon Award is the highest honor that a school can earn from the Department of Education. Congratulations to all the staff, students, families and communities of these two fabulous schools!

February Board Meeting Debrief: This month, Dallas ISD had its regular board briefing and meeting, along with a called meeting regarding the superintendent search process. There are two specific items that I want to highlight below:

Superintendent Search Process: In February, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees selected two reputable search firms to assist with the Dallas ISD superintendent search that is now getting underway. After initial contact, JG Consulting respectfully withdrew its services, citing a preference to be the sole search firm. We understand JG Consulting’s perspective and thank them for their proposal. Therefore, Dallas ISD will move forward to begin the superintendent search process, with Walsh Gallegos as our lead search firm partner, in a timely and efficient manner.

Old Adamson High School Construction:  The old Adamson High School building has sat vacant for years and will see new life, thanks to the 2020 Bond program which has provided resources to restore this historic building. Once restored, this building will house a new choice school. Stay tuned for more information to come on this exciting project.

As always, if you have questions, thoughts or simply want to sit down and have a deeper conversation about anything Dallas ISD-related, I am always willing to grab a coffee and chat or set up a Zoom. Just reach out to me at BenMackey@dallasisd.org.
