Lisa Gross has been cleaning rooms in Oak Cliff, on Methodist Dallas’ organ transplant floor, for five years.

In addition to cleaning (a crucial service on a floor where patients are seriously immunocompromised and where infection could lead to rejecting a vital organ, Methodist staff say) Gross talks to the patients, leaves little notes and prays for them, she says.

“I am surprised and overwhelmed that someone acknowledged me and that I won,” she beamed upon receiving the prize.

Staff members say patients adore Gross.

“Lisa has been instrumental in helping our hospital maintain low infection rates in our high-risk patient population. She is a key team member who has helped our hospital achieve outstanding patient experience scores,” says John Phillips, Methodist Dallas president. “When the managers give kudos to Lisa, her humble refrain remains the same, ‘I just treat others how I want to be treated!’”

Gross will use the cash prize $2,500 to “spoil her grand babies,” she says.
