Police responded to the Family Dollar at 1928 E. Ledbetter Dr. around 5:33 p.m. Thursday evening and found one gunshot wound victim inside the back of the store.

The victim, who police identified as 46-year-old Tenery Walker, died after being transported to a nearby hospital.

According to police, a preliminary investigation has shown Walker was shot by a man he had previously asked to leave the store. Police do not know the identity of the suspect at this time, and the suspect remains at large.

Walker is the second victim to die of a gunshot wound while inside of a Family Dollar store this week.

On Tuesday evening, a man who police identified as Phillip Betts was shot and killed after a customer entered the store and witnessed Betts engaged in a physical altercation with store employees after attempting to rob the store of several items.

The customer, Kevin Jackson Sr., was arrested for murder by Dallas police, and is being held on a $100,000 bond at Lew Sterrett Jail.

Tuesday’s incident occurred at the Family Dollar store located at the intersection of E Kiest Boulevard and S Lancaster Road, just under two miles north of Thursday’s shooting.

The two shootings are not related.
