Nichols was a 29-year-old Black man from Memphis, Tn. who died after being beaten by five Memphis Police Department officers in January.

The meetings will be hosted by the Office of Community Police Oversight, local nonprofits and other city offices. Two of the three meetings will be held in Oak Cliff.

On Feb. 16, a meeting called “A Night of Community Healing” will be held at the Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center in Redbird. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. and will be hosted by the Office of Equity and Inclusion, District 3 city council member Casey Thomas II, the Community Police Oversight Board and the Dallas Chapter of the National Black Police Association.

The second event, “Candlelight Vigil for Peace, Unity, Healing and Accountability,” will be held on City Hall Plaza on Feb. 19.

A final event, “Conversations to Move Dallas Forward,” will also be held at the recreation center. The meeting will be held on March 2 at 6 p.m. and will be lead by the same parties hosting the first event.

The Office of Community Police Oversight is a city office that handles citizen complaints regarding police officers.
