Dallas ISD athletics will host the first in-person hall of fame induction since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic Friday evening, and of the seven 2022 honorees, four have ties to schools in our neighborhood.

The hall of fame awards were started in 2017 to recognize student-athletes, coaches and contributors whose contributions to athletics have “been worthy of district-wide recognition.”

“Hall of Fame inductees exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and moral character. Inductees were selected for their striking accomplishments and undisputed impact while advancing school athletics,” a statement from DISD said.

While the honorees were named last year, Friday’s ceremony will be a chance for the inductees to be honored in person.

Former Dallas ISD superintendent Michael Hinojosa and South Oak Cliff’s all-time winningest coach are among the inductees with Oak Cliff ties.

The Advocate published a full biography of each of the Oak Cliff honorees when they were announced last year, which can be read here.

The ceremony will be streamed on Facebook Live at 7:30 p.m. this evening.
