Believe it or not, March is here, and spring is upon us! While February was a short month, a lot was happening in Dallas ISD.
Dallas ISD District 7 Monthly Updates
- UNT-Dallas awards admission to entire Sunset High School class: This month, the University of North Texas at Dallas awarded full acceptance and admission to the entire graduating class of Sunset High School. We’re thankful to our fabulous partner for the continued belief in our students across Dallas ISD.
- District 7 educator profile: David Fifield: David Fifield, assistant principal at W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy, was featured this month for his incredible work, having served the Greiner community in this role for nearly a decade. We’re thankful to have Mr. Fifield here with us in District 7!
Student Overall Academic Achievement: Dallas ISD made progress on every tracked metric over last year except for one that we remained steady on, but the growth was slightly below the rigorously set target for this year. While we celebrate the progress, we know we still have work to do. The superintendent outlined some changes that she will be recommending, including expansion of phonics training and the addition of “Demonstration Teachers” to campuses, among others.
Valedictorian & Salutatorian policy change: To address the issue of last-minute valedictorian and salutatorian changes due to the last grading period closing during the graduation window, Dallas ISD has made a policy change that would qualify students to speak at graduation as the valedictorian and salutatorian based on their class ranking after the fall semester of their senior year.
Upcoming Events:
- Spring Break – NO SCHOOL: Monday, March 13 – Friday, March 17
- Board Meeting: Thursday, March 23, at 6 p.m.
- Neighborhood Night Out: On April 6 from 5:30-8 p.m., families can visit their local high school to learn about schools right in their neighborhood, enroll onsite and enjoy good food and fun games. For more information, visit org/neighborhood schools.
