All’s back to normal at the North Oak Cliff Branch Library after a city-wide ransomware attack shut down library catalogs and databases nearly two months ago.

According to North Oak Cliff Branch Librarian Ruth Games, our neighborhood’s library has caught up on a backlog of book returns and the city-wide catalog is up and running.

At the time of the attack, a Dallas Public Library notice asked readers not to return books until librarians had a way to check them back into the catalogs. Overdue fines will not be charged for the months the library’s system was down.

Library card holders should now be able to access their accounts, Games said. A statement on the Dallas Public Library homepage says accounts may be inaccurate and asks for patience while accounts are updated.

Public computers remain down at the library, the only lingering effect of the ransomware attack.

According to Games, other busier library branches are struggling to catch back up, and some are even asking for volunteers to help reshelve books.
