On June 28, the Dallas institution that started at the West Davis store will sell its signature chicken fried steak platter for the original 1950s price of $1.85.

That’s $2, after tax.

All five Norma’s locations will participate in the celebration, and all proceeds will be given to the Birthday Party Project, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing joy to children experiencing homelessness through birthday parties.

67 pies will also be donated to Dallas first responders.

“Celebrating 67 years in business is an absolute joy, and Norma’s is delighted to share it with others who live and serve in this city that we love,” said Ed Murph, Norma’s Cafe owner, in a statement. “Sharing 67 pies with our Dallas first responders and proceeds of chicken fried steak sales with The Birthday Party Project are some fun ways to bring the party to the people and include more community members in this special celebration.”

Community service is deeply rooted in the Norma’s Cafe history.

For the last 35 years, Murph and other staff members have hosted a free Thanksgiving dinner at the Oak Cliff store.

Norma’s Cafe opened in Oak Cliff in 1956 and has since expanded to stores in North Dallas, Frisco, Park Lane and Plano.
