The “Books and Brews” event will take place June 20 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and cost $25 to attend. HRI’s World Refugee Day event changes year to year, and this will be the organization’s first year programming in Oak Cliff.

Whose Books mission to eradicate the book desert in Dallas’ southern sector by creating book access and promoting a community of readers really speaks to us,” said Maryam Baig, Marketing and Special Events Director for HRI. “It is a wonderful chance for us to introduce our services to the residents (in Oak Cliff) and introduce our community to Whose Books’ wonderful mission.”

The panel will feature authors Jenny Bhatt and Bahar Momeni who have written the novels All of Us Killers and The Trees We Carry, respectively.

Claudia Vega, owner of Whose Books, will moderate the panel which will feature discussions about both author’s literary journeys.

“Part of our vision is to also cultivate spaces where we share stories, lives and contributions of immigrants. We have observed that often migrants are reduced to data points, politics and biased rhetoric, but these courageous survivors have so much more to them,” Baig said.
