As July 4th became July 5, fireworks and gunfire continued to ring out around Oak Cliff. At about 2 Wednesday morning, those unwelcome bangs, far from celebratory, indicated deadly violence.

Early this morning, police responding to a shooting call in the 4600 block of Village Fair Drive near Oak Cliff’s Big T Plaza discovered two victims—one, a teenager, was dead at the scene. The other survived and was transported to an area hospital.

Both gunshot victims reportedly were passengers in a car. They may have engaged in an altercation with people outside the car, police report. That “unidentified group” fired into the vehicle, killing Josef Treece, 19, and wounding the other man, not yet identified, police report.

Detectives learned of a third victim, according to a press notice, another adult male, who was hit by gunfire at the scene and was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle. That man is in stable condition, according to police.

This is an ongoing investigation and developing story. Anyone with information related to this crime should contact Joann Castillo, detective, at 214.918.7380.
