Despite the heat, there are multiple ways to stay active during the summer here in Oak Cliff.

On August 6, Arts Mission Oak Cliff will host the Mini Movement Fest. Read our preview of the fest here. The event will last from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.. Four workshops will teach participants dances in preparation for the concert at the end of the day. $20 buys a pass for the whole day, including the four workshops, and lunch. Alternatively, each workshop is $5.

At the Kiest Park Recreation CenterWalk with a Doc takes place on the second Saturday of each month and provides the opportunity to go for a walk alongside a doctor and a group of neighbors. The participating doctor begins each session with a brief discussion of current health issues before commencing the walk. This event is for all skill-levels, and free to attend. The next Walk with a Doc will be August 12.

The Friends of Oak Cliff Parks has many opportunities throughout the year for volunteering in the parks and gardens around our neighborhood. Starting at 8 a.m. on select days, groups of volunteers will help tend gardens around Oak Cliff, staying active as well as helping keep the community beautiful. Keep an eye on their website for volunteer opportunities. 

Redbird Rising will have multiple free community fitness events including Dance Fit on Mondays, HITT Fit on Wednesdays and yoga on Saturdays. The classes will take place throughout the month at The Shops at RedBird, and begin at 6:30 p.m. or 9 a.m. on their respective days.
