The Asian-cajun seafood restaurant Krio closed last month after just over three years of service in Bishop Arts. But the primely placed storefront at streetcar station won’t sit empty for long.

In fact, it won’t even change hands.

Krio proprietors Connie Cheng and Dan Bui will build out the space as a sports bar set to open by the end of 2023, the Dallas Morning News reports.

While the co-owners could not be immediately reached for comment, it appears the sports bar is currently unnamed and will be a “totally different concept” than the now shuttered seafood joint.

Rising costs of food and labor and the impact to parking by ongoing nearby construction impacted Krio’s ability to succeed financially, owners told the News.

The new sports bar will enhance the already “topnotch” (as described by the Advocate) alcohol offerings, with a more bar-style menu. Some of the Krio cajun classics will make appearances on the new menu, owners said.

Cheng told the News that a sports bar will likely better serve the needs of the Bishop Arts neighborhood. While the district is home to some notable dives — such as Bui’s nearby cocktail bar concept Atlas — the nearest TV-filled, sports-focused establishment is PhD, a bit further down Davis.
