A statement sent to customers announced the Feb. 11 closure “with a heavy heart.”

“While we loved every minute of being part of this amazing Bishop Arts community and serving our beloved guests, unfortunately, we have been unable to make the economics of this location work and must make the difficult but prudent decision to close. We would like to thank our amazing staff, who have made this location everything it is and for whom this transition is particularly tough,” the statement said.

The closure marks the restaurant’s departure from Dallas (and leaves us wondering where we are supposed to get our kangaroo fix now.) Isla & Co. opened in October 2022 in the space formerly inhabited by Lucia.

Owner David Orr told the Advocate that his family moved to Dallas following our neighborhood’s Isla & Co. opening, and said that Bishop Arts combined the cultures of Sydney, Australia, New York City and Dallas well.

“It reminds us of Australia in that you can stop and chat to anyone on the side of the road, and anyone will talk to you,” Orr said. “That welcoming community environment was really appealing to us and feels like home.”
