Park advocates are celebrating the installation of an outdoor classroom at the Kiest Park Conservation Area that was completed in January.
The classroom is located behind the Kiest Park tennis courts, a short walk down the Conservation Area’s entry path.
“If you sit on one of those benches, you’ll likely be the first to sit on them,” Jon Papp, a Kiestwood resident and Friends of Oak Cliff Parks member, told the Advocate Tuesday.
The Friends of Oak Cliff Parks will host a dedication ceremony for the classroom on March 9 at 11:30 a.m. According to Papp, the classroom can be used by anyone, but will likely be most utilized by trainees for the Master Naturalist or Master Gardener programs.
The classroom features nearly a dozen wooden benches and a wooden instructor’s podium that was fashioned from the trunk of a tree that sat in one of the conservation area’s trails. The installation was done by Greenspace Dallas, a nonprofit dedicated to restoring green spaces along the Trinity River Corridor.
A grant from Dash for the Beads helped fund the classroom.
Friends of Oak Cliff Parks also just released their spring trail walk calendar, which is below.
March 2: Foraging trail walk
April 20: Kids bug walk
April 28: Wildflower walk
May 5: Kids bird walk
May 11: Adult bug walk
A tree identifying walk and a dog walk will be announced at a later date.
