The Parrish Aviation Flight Academy was started by Jack Parrish, an Elmwood resident, when he was only 23-years-old. Parrish, now 27, said he began the school as an alternative to the more “corporate” environments that permeate aviation.

“Creating pilots who love to fly and get to experience the richness of the aviation community is the best foundation we can give our future pilots,” Parrish said.

Nine academies in the Southwest region were named for the 2024 award, which recognizes a high standard of excellence in flight schools.  A spokesperson for Parrish Aviation described the award as a “very big deal in the flight community.”

780 flight schools were evaluated for the award, according to a press release from Parrish Aviation, and results were determined based  on feedback from students and pilots who voluntarily reviewed their experience at their school. Parrish Aviation is one of four flight schools run out of Dallas Executive Airport.
