The Citizens Police Academic is starting classes at the Dallas Police Academy, 5310 Red Bird Center Drive, this Saturday.
The classes will be every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and graduation day is Oct. 26.
The Citizens Police Academy is an introduction to the daily duties of officers to maintain a safer city. The topics include the functions of a patrol officer, the use of force, the role of the Internal Affairs Unit, tactical units, and the investigation of crimes.
The objective of the academy is to give a general understanding of the various operations of the profession and how officers carry out their duties. They hope to give a better understanding of how the police department works to improve the relationship between citizens and officers.
Participants must be at least 21 years old, have a form of identification, and pass a background check. The class is free.
