South Oak Cliff is heading to its fourth consecutive state final game after defeating Argyle 37-3 in the semifinal game Friday night at SMU’s Ford Stadium.
Senior quarterback Carter Kopecky was 11 of 15 for 124 yards and a touchdown while junior running back Mikail Trotter rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns and the defense forced three turnovers.
This was the second time in three years that Argyle and SOC met in the state semifinals. The Golden Bears beat Argyle 14-6 in 2022 before advancing to the 5A Division II state title game and repeating as state champion after winning the school’s first title in 2021.
SOC fell to Port Neches-Groves in last year’s 5A Division II state title game, but defeated PNG 56-14 in the 5A Region II finals this season to advance to Friday’s contest with Argyle.
SOC will play for the state champion title when they face Richmond Randall Friday at 7 p.m. at AT&T Stadium. Randall has never won a state title.
