I hope everyone had a restful and refreshing spring break. As we move into the final stretch of the school year, I wanted to share some exciting updates and progress happening across our district.
Dallas ISD District 7 monthly updates:
Resource Center West opens: Last month, Dallas ISD opened its newest resource center, designed to connect students and families with vital services through on-site community partners. In West Dallas, Brother Bill’s Helping Hand will be the first organization to operate out of the new facility.
Dallas ISD sustainability practices result in half a million in savings: Four years ago, Dallas ISD launched a comprehensive review of its energy, food, construction, transportation, and maintenance practices to improve sustainability and cut long-term costs. Those efforts have paid off — resulting in over half a million dollars in savings that can now be reinvested directly into our schools and classrooms.
Bond Progress Updates:
- Hall Personalized Learning Academy at Oak Cliff: I was thrilled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new school building. It was inspiring to see parents, alumni, students, faculty, and community members come together to celebrate this exciting milestone.
- Rosemont Upper Campus: Rosemont Upper remains on track to open in Fall 2025.
- Bishop Arts STEAM Academy: I’m excited to share that the Board of Trustees unanimously approved moving forward with contracting and construction for updates to the campus. This project will bring a new secure entrance, exterior lighting, sidewalk replacements, and important upgrades to the school’s security and fire systems.
February Board Meeting debrief: Last month, Dallas ISD held its regular board briefing and meeting. I’ve chosen to highlight a critical item below:
- Dallas ISD priority setting update: At our briefing, the board and superintendent had a deep discussion about what should be set as our district’s priorities for the next five years. The priorities discussed included a focus on (1) third grade English and math; (2) eighth grade English and math; (3) college, career, and military readiness; (4) student experience; (5) teacher experience; (6) equitable resources; and (7) financial literacy.
