On March 13 at about 1:30 a.m., Dallas Police received a call for service in the 1500 block of Exeter Avenue. The preliminary investigation determined that officers located Gutierrez injured. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and determined the victim had died.

U.S. Marshals Service officials arrested Andrew Gallegos in connection with the shooting, Dallas police said Monday in a news release.

Both Gallegos and Gutierrez attended Molina High School in Dallas.

Gallegos, 17, remained in the Dallas County jail Monday afternoon, facing a capital murder charge in the death of a person between 10 and 15 years old, according to jail records. It was not clear whether he had an attorney.
