Public schools in the Oak Cliff area opened up the doors for the 2025-26 school year today, bringing in a new initiative for school safety.

The Dallas ISD Police Department launched its first dedicated traffic enforcement unit to protect students, families and staff during high-traffic periods, according to a Dallas ISD press release.

The unit seeks to improve safety for the community during peak drop-off and pick up times by increasing visibility and promoting safe driving habits. The officers in the unit can be identified by red uniforms while monitoring school zones for speeding, distracted driving and enforcing bus stop laws.
