The SPCA of Texas officially unveiled their cornerstone for the $31 million capital campaign, Care Unleashed, which is funding a major campus and facility expansion.
Located at their current 2400 Lone Star Drive address, the new builds will double the annual reach from approximately 50,000 to nearly 100,000. The anticipated opening of the new additions is late Fall 2026.
By 2028, services are expected to serve over 350,000 animals and families to not only survive, but thrive, SPCA of Texas CEO and president Chris Luna said.
“This will increase our ability to care for pets rescued from cruelty investigations, which often are high-volume cases, in a place separate from our adoptable animals,” Luna said. “We also will have more room to accommodate vulnerable pets who need help after natural disasters while connecting more families with loving companions.”
The Stephens Greth Foundation Campus will include three buildings: The Addy Foundation Care and Recovery Center, the Dallas Animal Care Center and the Russel E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center. The facilities will provide more space, advanced veterinary medical resources such as The Steven and Sue Koons Surgery Center, and improved adoption experiences to meet the needs of the growth in North Texas.
“It’s not about just helping animals,” Rep. Venton Jones said during the ceremony. “It’s about helping families stay whole.”
He was joined on stage by Rep. Rafael Anchía to present a resolution from the State of Texas in honor of the unveiling.
“It’s moments like this that really renew my faith in who we are, as a community, as a people,” Anchía said. “Because this cornerstone is just not a piece of infrastructure, it is an expression of our values. Who we are deep down.”
