This follows a month of demands from The Dallas Carter High Coalition Project for his immediate removal. The DCHC Project cited concerns of Title IX violations, a “hostile, abusive work environment” and “unprofessional, abusive conduct” in a Oct. 7 letter to Dallas ISD Superintendent of Schools Stephanie Elizalde

Concerns were further raised when Dallas ISD quickly removed Woodrow Wilson High School Principal Chandra Hooper-Barnett on Oct. 28 after an on-campus incident.

In an Oct. 30 letter, the group drew a comparison to the immediate action taken at Woodrow Wilson High School. Hooper-Barnett was removed within two working days pending the review of allegations that she gathered all Black students for a meeting in which they were blamed for the school’s state accountability rating.

The Nov. 9 letter addressed to Carter Cowboys states that Tyson has accepted a different opportunity within the district that allows him to continue supporting students and educators in Dallas ISD.

Vickie Mitchell will serve as interim principal following Tyson’s departure. She previously served as the interim principal of John Neely Bryan Elementary School and as the area superintendent.

Dallas ISD said the district does not comment on personnel matters.
