The Oak Cliff deck park over Interstate 35 moved closer to reality this morning when Dallas City Council approved spending $7 million on the planned deck, which would connect the Dallas Zoo to Zang Boulevard.
The deck was added to the Southern Gateway Project, which will completely reconstruct Interstate 35 from Colorado to Interstate 20. Work on that $656-million project is expected to begin this month.
The Regional Transportation Council put up $40 million for the deck, planned to be built between Ewing and Lancaster, contingent upon Dallas matching 20 percent.
The $7 million was included in the city’s 2017 bond package.
The Southern Gateway Project, including the I-35 deck, are expected to be complete in January 2022.
