Norma’s Cafe, a classic Dallas institution that opened its first location in Oak Cliff in 1956, is amplifying its brand with four big announcements this month.
The chain will be celebrating its 68th birthday this year. For the occasion, the restaurant will donate proceeds from sales of its signature chicken fried steak platter to Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Dallas on June 26. The plate will be offered at the 1950s price of $1.85 ($2 with tax) at its six locations.
Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children realize their potential and build their futures through youth mentoring. Norma’s Cafe owner Ed Murph was a part of the organization, having been a Little in the 1950’s to World War II veteran Mr. Bill Barnett. In the 1980’s, Murph served as a Big for several in the program.
“Wonderful memories and lifelong friends were made in that experience,” Murph said. “We are so proud to partner with such a terrific organization.”
Norma’s On-The-Go launched this month in Garland and is the restaurant chain’s sixth location. With locations currently in Oak Cliff, North Dallas, Frisco, Park Lane, and Plano, the brand will now be able to bring its southern comfort food to previously unserved markets in Garland, Heath, Rockwall, and Rowlett, through third-party delivery platforms.
“It was important to us to stay true to our southern comfort roots, but consistently elevate to also stay with the times,” said Kurt Metzger, VP of Operations for Norma’s Cafe. “Five locations just weren’t enough to satisfy the Dallas Metroplex, so we decided to expand to Garland. We’re so excited to be able to serve more guests in the DFW market, with the ease and convenience of office or home delivery.”
Norma’s Cafe On-The-Go is available via DoorDash, Uber, GrubHub and pickup from a 650-square-foot space in Garland’s Revolving Kitchen.
Additionally, Norma’s has rolled out its new app this month which is available on IOS and Android devices and allows customers to order online, place catering orders and earn rewards. Customers who download the app will receive a $10 discount on their first delivery or pickup order.
The restaurant will also debut original merchandise.
“From a comfort food craving to a Norma’s branded hoodie, our goal is to blend the quality of the Norma’s experience with the convenience of today’s world.” Metzger said. “We often hear of the commute that some folks make to be part of the Norma’s family for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Our goal is to bring the Norma’s experience to them with a few clicks on their phone.”
