The long-awaited Oak Cliff Film Festival begins tomorrow evening at the Texas Theatre — here’s the schedule for opening night.
“STREET SMART: Lessons from a TV Icon” is the first film in the festival’s lineup, starting at 7:30 p.m. downstairs at the Texas Theatre. This documentary tells the story of trailblazer Sonia Manzano, the actress who played the beloved character Maria on Sesame Street. As the first Latina in a regular role on American television, she helped pave the way for others in the industry.
Next, the screening of “OBEX” is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. upstairs. The film follows main character Conor Marsh, who begins playing a new computer game called OBEX. When his dog Sandy goes missing, he must journey into the virtual OBEX world to find her.
To kick off the festival, the first night will conclude with an opening night party, welcoming Planet B founders Justin Pearson and Luke Henshaw. The party is set for 10 p.m. – 12 a.m. in the lobby.
Tickets are sold individually for each screening and can be purchased online at $14 per person.
The Texas Theatre is located at 231 Jefferson Blvd.
