Shurretta Metcalf, a 40-year-old mom from Oak Cliff, won the IBF bantamweight title in October 2024 and will now box in front of millions of viewers on Netflix Friday.

Metcalf is a proud Oak Cliff native who recently won a world boxing title as the International Boxing Federation Bantamweight World Champion and whose life is a balance of being a professional boxer, a mom and a business owner.

In 2014, she began boxing as an amateur and went number five in the country as an amateur boxer. She turned pro in 2016, and in October 2024, Metcalf took the world stage to win her new title.

Metcalf is part of the undercard for Netflix’s second live boxing event, Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3, from Madison Square Garden this Friday.

According to Netflix, this will be the first-ever all-women’s boxing card in Madison Square Garden history.

Metcalf (14-4-1, 2 KOs) will fight against Cherneka Johnson (17-2-0, 7 KOs) July 11 to defend her IBF women’s bantamweight title and also for the vacant WBC and WBO women’s bantamweight title.

The Netflix event begins at 7 p.m. CT. The main event, Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) vs. Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) is set to begin at 10 p.m. CT.
