Donde Los Tacos is Oak Cliff’s newest taco spot, run by a couple on the corner at 900 W. Davis Street.
Husband-and-wife duo Martin and Jennifer Reyes are always on the hunt for the best tacos, and wanted to open their own spot to offer authentic Mexican flavors.
The space, which previously housed SoulTopia, a holistic boutique, was completely transformed into a vibrant taqueria offering all the staples including breakfast tacos, trompo, shrimp and their signature ribeye taco.
The Reyes’ grew up in East Dallas and had plenty of date nights at taco shops. When their favorite spot shut down, one of the only places her picky daughter would eat, they were devastated and could not find another place that hit the spot.
“My husband was just like, what if we open a taqueria?” Jennifer said. “One day, he was just like, Hey, there’s this opportunity to go look at some locations for a possible restaurant. So we looked at a couple locations around Dallas, and they were just, the vibe wasn’t there. And then we came across this one, and he brought me, I walked in, and I walked right back out.”
The previous lawyer officer and crystal shop had a lot of work that needed to be done, but Jennifer and her husband eventually saw the vision and got to work.
“Once the ball started rolling, it was just like, one thing after another after another, and endless nights, like long nights that we would spend here,” Jennifer said. “It’s been a lot of hard work.”
The shop offically opened on April 1 and offers a variety of tacos, including vegan, on their menu. Highlights include steak, trompo (marinated pork), chicken and chorizo. They also have appetizers like guacamole, chips and salsa, elote and cebollitas (grilled onions). You can finish things off with churro cheesecake and wash it down with agua frescas or a margarita.
“I do have a family in Oak Cliff, so I would always come over here and just like hang out in the Oak Cliff area on Jefferson, so we’re always in the area,” Jennifer said. “Oak Cliff is such a close knit neighborhood. Everybody helps each other out, and we love it.”
