The taco and wine spot will be opening a new location in downtown Garland at 706 Main Street, which was formerly home to Jim’s Barber Shop.

The idea for a second location crossed owner Jimmy Contreras’ mind in 2020, but then the pandemic hit, so they were just trying to survive. They came out on the other side and decided to revisit the idea.

“We looked at a couple other places, went really deep into talks with with other two other locations. But Garland came to the table, and they actually came out and visited the restaurant,” Contreras says. “They’re like,  we’d like you to come take a look. And we did that, and fell in love with the area immediately, just gorgeous old buildings. That’s what want to do. We want to go find cool old buildings, repurpose them and bring them back to life and make them useable and relevant again.”

Contreras is hoping to open the doors to the new location in August.

“I feel like it’s a great opportunity, and if we keep on respecting it as such, hopefully it’ll continue to go well for us,” Contreras says.

The building was built in 1928 and they are going to stay as true as possible to the original structure. It’s 1300 square feet, with a front and back patio — fitting, as the original restaurant is well known for it’s pati0.

Taco y Vino’s menu features features a “three tacos for $14” that lets you mix and match fillings like cochinita pibil, pork carnitas, carne asada, barbacoa, brisket guiso, ahi tuna, tempura catfish or shrimp, chicken tinga, black bean & cheese and fried avocado.
