“We just love our local community,” founder of Spinster Records David Grover said. “Levi’s approached us about doing a collab and we weren’t really interested in doing just ‘hey, Spinster Records and Levi’s,’ we wanted to celebrate something more.”

That something more is adding on to last year’s celebration by giving back to the community that they love. As a part of their Dallas Design Series, Spinster Records is auctioning off three custom Levi’s Trucker Jackets hand painted and drawn by local artists SM SANZ, Carlos Donjuan and Clean As Paper.

The proceeds for each will go to benefit three local music nonprofits: Arts Mission Oak Cliff, Friends of the Oak Cliff Cultural Center and Spin The Spectrum with the auction price starting at $140 per jacket.

“We love Oak Cliff, there’s a lot of needs right now,” Grover said. “So we thought that was kind of a cool way to give back and just be active and have people thinking about their neighborhood and the artists and the people who live here on a local level.”

He said they hoped to expand the 11th birthday celebration to be bigger than ever, with a block party on the street and a big, huge concert, but since they weren’t able to do that they are sticking to in-store sets with hyper-local artists.

A DJ takeover will start at 11 a.m. and feature Cozy Campos, DJ Goldie, DJ Storm, DJ Jules, Ronnie, Cumbia 319 and DJ EZ Eddie D. Livestreams of the music will take place when possible.

Then at 6 p.m. live music starts Los Beckleys, CURL and Pretty Man. The sets include genres of a rocky new wave, groovy R&B and some more goth and dark sounds, Grover said.

There will also be a pop-up activation with tattoo artist Sanjuanita Alvarado.

“We just wanted to really lean in and tilt toward our neighborhood and just show love and really kind of celebrate us and y’all because we really don’t exist without Oak Cliff,” he said.

The 11th Anniversary: Dallas Design Series takes place “all day” Friday, Oct. 17 with music from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Free artist posters are available for the first 50 guests that make a purchase of $30 or more.
