Texas Monthly gives nod to Cliff Cafe burger

The August issue of Texas Monthly lists the Cliff Cafe’s brie and granny smith burger at No. 32 on its list of the 50 best burgers in Texas. The restaurant closed in July and is expected to open next month with a new chef, a new concept and a new menu, so it’s unlikely that we’ll get to try the 32nd-best burger in Texas.

The magazine story says they tasted more than 250 burgers all over the state. But they didn’t pick Chris Madrid’s, which many San Antonians say has the best burgers anywhere. In Dallas, they ranked Jake’s at No. 50, but snubbed Keller’s. Four of the 50 are in East Dallas, including No. 1, the classic cheeseburger at the Grape.

The Cliff Cafe burger was the only one in Oak Cliff to make the cut. I might’ve put Hunky’s on the list. All this burger talk is making me hungry. And I still miss Prince’s.
