tried and true chickenOak Cliff resident Nick Badovinus has been nominated for a James Beard Foundation Award, one of the highest awards in the culinary arts.

Badovinus is nominated in the Outstanding Restaurateur category, and we can see why. He is the founder of several “outstanding” restaurants in Dallas: Off-Site Kitchen, Neighborhood Services and the Tried and True.

Another Dallas chef nominated with a connection to our neighborhood is Teiichi Sakurai of Tei-An, who is planning to open a fish market at the planned Sylvan | Thirty development. Sakurai was nominated for Best Chef Southwest.

Here are the other Dallas nominees: The Cedars Social, for Outstanding Bar Program; Stephan Pyles for Outstanding Chef; The French Room for Outstanding Service; Cafe on the Green for Outstanding Wine Program; and Jason Maddy of Oak for Best Chef Southwest.

The winners will be announced in May.
