Start Mardi Gras a little early tonight, Feb. 19, at the Outpost tavern, where Rob Shearer and Amy Cowan of Go Oak Cliff will be tending bar for the night. Their tips will go toward the Oak Cliff Mardi Gras parade March 2.

The Teco Theater’s 12th-annual New Play Competition starts Thursday. Six plays no more than 20 minutes long are performed each night of the competition, and audience members are given ballots. The winning playwrights recieve $1,000 and round-trip airline tickets. Competitors include previous winners Kyndal Robertson and Camika Spencer of “Black at the Assassination.”

“Cabaret” is the February installment of CineWilde at the Texas Theatre. The Texas continues its series of Oscar-nominated documentaries, plus all 10 Oscar-nominated documentary shorts. And music: Pinkish Black and Peopleodeon.

The monthly ElmWoof pop-up dog park is from noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, on Edgefield at Newport.

The Pin Show, a fashion show produced by neighbor Julie McCullough of Make and Made, is from 6:30-11 p.m. Saturday at The Goodyear Plant.
