Fried and true: State Fair set to unveil this year’s heart-thumping foods

Fried butter is hard to imagine as a snack, but it fits the general direction of the annual Big Tex Choice awards — it’s fried, and it’s likely to be served at this year’s State Fair of Texas. The Fair hosts its annual competition on Labor Day, with winners to be chosen from among eight finalists: Green Goblins, Deep-Fried Butter, Twisted Yam on a Stick, Fernie’s Deep Fried Peaches & Cream, Texas Fried Pecan Pie, Country Fried Pork Chips, Sweet Jalapeno Corn Dog Shrimp and Fried Peanut Butter Cup Macaroon. For a complete listing of the ingredients, check out the DMN’s story. And we’ll be back to you next week on the big winners.
