Abbie Chesney started her jewelry line, Eye on the Sparrow, to honor her friend Carter Albrecht, who died in September 2007.

Chesney crafts jewelry out of used guitar strings and sells them on etsy.com and at craft shows. She started the business as a way to cope with her grief after Albrecht was killed five years ago. Since then, she says, the jewelry line has sold enough that she has donated $7,000 to the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation.

Now Chesney is behind another project to memorialize the late musician. “The Sparrow Project” is a CD composed of songs from Dallas musicians. Dallas-based musician Salim Nourallah produced the CD, and Trey Carmichael did the artwork. Chesney is not selling the CD but giving it away with jewelry orders, which come from all over the world.

A CD release party is set for Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Kessler Theater. Chesney says she hopes to release two more volumes of “The Sparrow Project.”
