Oak Cliff-based artist Michael Savoie has leased a space at 212 S. Tyler, across the street from Bishop Arts Theater Center, for a studio and gallery, Savoie Gallery.

The gallery opens Sept. 14 with “Expensive Waste,” an exhibit of Savoie’s paintings, which deal with the relationship between pop culture and the social issue of irrelevancy.

Savoie holds a BFA in painting from Burlington College in Vermont. He moved to Dallas five years ago to work on commissions for private collectors here. Savoie serves on the Oak Cliff Lion’s Club’s board of directors and on the Twelve Hills Nature Center’s board of communications.
