Mora Catlett is an avant-garde jazz musician who draws from Afro-Caribbean rhythms. He was raised in Mexico City, lived for many years in Detroit and played for seven years with the Sun Ra Arkestra.
The purpose of the concert is to bring attention to La Rondalla, the free after-school music program run by our neighborhood’s own avant-garde jazz family, Dennis Gonzalez and sons, Aaron Gonzalez and Stefan Gonzalez, along with guitarist Kenny Withrow.
A Q&A with Mora Catlett will follow the concert.
AfroHorn is composed of of Sam Newsome and Alex Harding on saxophones, Cuban musician Aruan Ortiz on piano, percussionist Roman Diaz, New York bassist Hilliard Green, and of course, the master drummer percussionist Francisco Mora-Catlett.
