Austin’s Tacodeli coming to Sylvan Thirty

It’s the taco place your Austin friends won’t shut up about, even when you’re like, “dude, I live in Oak Cliff.”

Tacodeli, which has five locations in Austin, signed a lease at Sylvan Thirty.

If Tacodeli, which opened its original location in 1999, gets a lot of hype, it’s for a reason. Founder Robert Espinosa started the restaurant because he missed the food of his hometown, Mexico City. The restaurant has its own tortillas made and serves 40 types of tacos, including cochinita pibil, carne asada, shrimp, chicken and veggie. Plus breakfast tacos.

Taco Deli at Sylvan Thirty is expected to open this coming summer.

  • Traditional central Mexican tacos are served with a toasted corn tortilla, not flour as shown here. Besides, I’ve always maintained that Dallas Mexican cuisine is far superior to the options in Austin, and much closer to truly authentic. I’d rather go to a mom and pop taco place in Oak Cliff than a chain from Austin.
