Jesus Ricardo Hernandez, 16, was shot to death by his mother’s boyfriend in February.

The Dallas Police Department and the United States Marshal Fugitive Task Force arrested a 26-year-old man accused of killing an Oak Cliff teenager after assaulting the boy’s mother.

Jesus Rodriguez is charged with murder, and police say he confessed to shooting 16-year-old Jesus Ricardo Hernandez after midnight on Feb. 5.

Police say Rodriguez was assaulting Hernandez’s mother, at her home in South Winnetka Heights, so Hernandez and others pulled the man off of her, dragged him outside and began to beat him. But Rodriguez pulled a gun and fired a shot into the air. The others began to run, but Rodriguez chased down Hernandez and shot him.

The teenager died Feb. 8 at Methodist hospital.
