Celebrities! They’re just like us!
The Advocate editors and designers in June 2009 had the ingenious idea to make our cover look like “Us Weekly” magazine for profiles of local news personalities who live in Oak Cliff.
The cover did cause some confusion when a few neighbors saw the cover and thought we were changing our format from neighborhood news to celebrity gossip.
That issue came up with week in a video posted on Facebook by Shelly Slater, who is stepping down from her role as news anchor on WFAA to take special assignments. She was cleaning out her office and came across the Advocate’s “Us Weekly” issue, which features her and some of her WFAA colleagues. Find it at about the 25-minute mark.
