Adamson teacher’s anti-Trump post goes viral, DISD puts her on leave

An Adamson High School teacher is having 15 very bad minutes of fame.

The teacher, Payal Modi, posted an 8-second video to Instagram in which she uses a water gun to shoot an image of Donald Trump while yelling “Die!” It is unclear whether students were in the classroom.

The video made Fox News and virtually every other conservative news outlet.

Dallas ISD placed Modi, who teaches art, on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The video was uploaded to Modi’s Instagram account Jan. 20. She made her account private, but not before the video was unleashed on the internet.

Fox News reports that the post’s caption read, “Watching the #inauguration in my classroom like…#no #stop #denial #squirtgun #hypocrisy #powerless #saveusall #teachthembetter #atleastitsfriday.”

That outlet called the post, “…yet another example of how our public schools have been turned into social engineering petri dishes festering with rancorous rhetoric and hate.”

I would like to know the whole story. It makes all the difference in the World whether students were present. Also, whether it was a joke, or an attempt to incite violence. Most of all, was it done as a way to dispel negative feelings? I live in the Adamson attendance zone. My son graduated from there, as did my older sister. Most of the students are Mexican, either immigrants themselves — some undocumented — or the children and grandchildren of immigrants, and I’m certain many are terrified. If it was offered as one means of dealing with those fears, the same way a Trump pinata might, it might be controversial, but it wouldn’t be wrong.
