The $666-million reconstruction of Interstate 35, known as the Southern Gateway Project, will cause some delays this weekend and for the next couple of years.
All lanes of 35 at Beckley will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, and traffic will be detoured around it, in order to remove the overpass bridge. The Zang Boulevard and Twelfth Street overpasses also will be temporarily closed for safety.
After that, the Beckley overpass will be out for 18 months.
The Eighth Street overpass has been closed since June 4, and a new one is expected to open as soon as December.
