As we’ve been expecting since December, Brixmor Property Group, the owners of Wynnewood Village, signed leases with a cinema and a gym.

We’ll continue using our minimal resources to bring you as much neighborhood news as possible and leave you with this, the bottom half of Brixmor’s media release, sent to us a day after they gave it to the Dallas Morning News:

LA Fitness, one of the fastest growing health club chains in the U.S., will open a 34,000-square-foot fitness facility near the center’s main entrance on Illinois Avenue. The ground-up development will replace a former 24,000-square-foot vacant office building and will address a lack of fitness options for this densely-populated market. LA Fitness operates nearly 700 locations in 26 states and Canada.

California-based Maya Cinemas will open its first Texas location at Wynnewood Village with a 73,000-square-foot megaplex with 14 screens. The state-of-the-art cinema, also located at the center’s main entrance, will replace a paved lot and 17,000 square feet of underutilized small shop space. The company currently operates five theaters in California with plans to open an additional theater in 2018.

As part of construction, the new fitness and entertainment buildings will include new hardscape, landscaping, LED lighting, new directional and pylon signage as well as planned opportunities for new restaurants with outdoor dining and small shop space.

“Wynnewood Village and Oak Cliff as a whole are poised to benefit from the vision and focus Brixmor Property Group is bringing to the table,” said Dallas City Councilman Scott Griggs, “and the strengths LA Fitness and Maya Cinemas bring promises to propel this project forward.”

Wynnewood Village is located on highly trafficked Illinois Avenue, with 31,000 vehicles passing daily, with direct access to I-35. LA Fitness and Maya Cinemas join an established retail center anchored by two grocers Kroger and El Rancho Supermarket.
