Now one is opening in Preston Center on Oct. 21.

Most of the new stores, which are about a third the size of a typical Target store, are near college campuses — Preston Center is 2.5 miles from Southern Methodist University. And Target is planning 22 stores located on university campuses, including the University of Texas at Austin.

Can our neighborhood get one of these?

The University of North Texas at Dallas, Dallas Baptist University and Paul Quinn College are the accredited universities on our side of the river. But they are far-flung and without much retail development going on in their areas. The UNT Dallas campus is near Lancaster Avenue and Red Bird, where the city is investing economic development funds.

Wynnewood would be great as it’s within the wealthy pocket of north Oak Cliff, and new development already is on the way there.

But since some mini Targets have CVS pharmacies inside, we know the perfect Oak Cliff location.

How about the southeast corner of Zang at Davis?
