The Rev. Virgil E. Hunton and his congregants built the old Davis Street Baptist Church themselves in the 1930s, and the renovated building recently won an award from AIA Dallas.
The building is now Cliff House, a wedding and event venue, on North Tyler at Fouraker. Longtime Oak Cliff real estate investor David Spence bought it, along with the adjacent shopping strip, about five years ago.
Oak Cliff-based DSGN Associates architecture redesigned the building, which won a 2019 Built Design Award from AIA Dallas. DSGN also won AIA Dallas firm of the year.
