The South Oak Cliff Golden Bears had a surprise guest at their basketball game Wednesday night, Shaquille O’Neal.

The former NBA All Star and TV sports analyst appeared at a publicity opportunity in Hurst Wednesday for J.C. Penney, which gave formalwear to SOC’s 6-foot-9 starting forward Kylon Owens.

During their visit at Penney’s, Shaq told Owens he would come to his game that night, and he surely did.

The students and employees of South Oak Cliff have had en eventful couple of weeks. Their newly renovated school just reopened. And then there was the shooting at a basketball game last week.

The visit from an NBA legend boosted morale.

“It feels really, really good,” student Charity Garrett told KXAS.
