Marc Strickland suffered gunshot wounds to the chest, head and spine, according to a crowd-funding campaign. He never showed signs of improvement and was taken off life support Saturday afternoon.

Known as “Flea,” Strickland was a student at Dallas Can Academy. Police say the shooting, during the third quarter of the game at Ellis Davis Field House, happened after a fight. A Dallas ISD police officer was grazed by a bullet when she tried to stop the shooter, who got away that night.

A 15-year-old later turned himself in, and police say he confessed to the shooting. He is now charged with murder.

After the shooting, Dallas ISD implemented stricter security measures for events.
