A Dallas Police officer was shot in the hand during an exchange of gunfire in Oak Cliff Saturday.

Officers were trying to arrest a man with felony warrants in the 2100 block of South Westmoreland, near Illinois Avenue, at about 7:30 p.m.

The man took off in his truck driving the wrong way on Westmoreland and made it about two blocks before crashing into another vehicle at Texas Drive; no one was injured in that crash, the Dallas Morning News reports.

After that, he got out of and exchanged gunfire with police before running away. One officer was injured, and the other came to his aid and called for assistance.

The suspect laster was found in a backyard, dead of what was believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
