Small businesses in our neighborhood that needed PPE received donations from Oak Cliff leaders recently, and they’re asking everyone to recognize responsible businesses with love on social media.

City Council members Chad West and Casey Thomas, County Commissioner Elba Garcia and the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce handed out masks, gloves and hand sanitizer to Oak Cliff small businesses.

They have a “huge amount” of items to give away, West told KERA.

“Over the course of the past few months, local mom and pop businesses have been some of the hardest hit,” West stated in a release. “This is an effort to support local businesses as they work to remain profitable in the era of COVID-19. We want to recognize and support our local business community’s efforts to keep their staff members employed and to serve the community safely.”

Neighbors are asked to support small businesses themselves with the hashtags #WePPEinOC and #ShopLocal. The chamber is providing signage to participating businesses reminding customers to cover their faces and use the hashtags.

“Please join us in promoting and recognizing local businesses as they work to maintain a safe environment for their customers and employees,” chamber president Kiyundra Jones said in the release.
